Two young boys were allegedly groped by a teenage boy who may have special needs in an Abbotsford International Airport washroom on Aug. 29 (Wednesday), just after noon.

The brothers, aged six and nine, were in the men’s washroom near the arrivals area inside the airport terminal, say police.

The boys were standing near each other in front of the urinals when the teen male, possibly aged 13 to 16 years old, approached and then grabbed the genitals of the younger brother, and then quickly bit the older brother’s stomach, the police report.

The teenager appears to have been accompanied by an older male, about 50 to 60 years old, who physically escorted him out of the washroom immediately following the incident, said Abbotsford Police Const. Ian MacDonald.

A witness felt that it was possible that the suspect had special needs and that the older man was either his guardian or caregiver, he added.

Abbotsford Police detectives are keen to identify both the suspect and the older man in his company, and are asking for help from the public.

“We’re appealing to witnesses, or perhaps one or both of those individuals to come forward,” said MacDonald.

There was a six-hour delay before the assault was reported to the police, as family members were trying to digest what they were dealing with, he said.

“It’s sometimes difficult to get information from upset children,” he added.

The youngsters are from the Lower Mainland and outside the Abbotsford area.

The teen suspect is described as a white male, 13 to 16 years old with a thin build, 5’4” to 5’8” in height, with short brown hair, and prominent front teeth or braces. He was wearing a red short sleeved shirt or T-shirt with blue pants.

The older man was also white, 50 to 60 years old, with grey hair and a grey beard, and he was wearing a dark coloured shirt with a CAT logo on it.
