Abbotsford's Canada Day fireworks celebrations were bigger and brighter than ever thanks to a generous sponsorship from the Calgary Flames, the parent organization of the Abbotsford Heat hockey team.

Meanwhile, Prospera Credit Union was once again the naming sponsor for the Canada Day 2012 celebrations.

"It's a testament to the spirit of our local community organizations that they continually give back to the community in such a grand way," said Mayor Bruce Banman.

More than 40,000 turned out for the day's activities, which included a parade down South Fraser Way with a circus theme, free family activities, and entertainment at Exhibition Park. The party concluded with the crowd favourite, the fireworks display.

Mission's Canada Day celebrations at Fraser River Heritage Park drew thousands too.
