Abbotsford police have located a 13-year-old boy who went missing Sept. 7 and was spotted Wednesday night with a head injury.

Abbotsford police spokesman Const. Ian MacDonald said Alex James Thorne has been found in the area of Gladwin and Maclure roads.

He has been taken for medical assessment.

Earlier Thursday, MacDonald said Thorne wrote several messages to friends on Facebook, indicating that his head injury was from a skirmish over a water bottle.

Police are not sure whether the boy was fighting with someone, but believe he was wounded in the head with a bottle.

He said the teen was aware that police were looking for him but did not want to be found. He had not returned to his parents' house or his guardian's home, he said.

"For whatever reason he does not appear to want to go home," he said, adding that police are not aware of any problems between Thorne and his guardian.

Around 6 p.m., Thorne was seen at a housing complex in the 3320-block of Maclure Road. He refused to remain on at the complex and left the scene northbound on foot, despite having a bloodied green shirt wrapped around his head.

Patrol officers, a dog unit and a police helicopter failed to find the boy as they searched in the darkness Wednesday night.
