Editor, the Times:
I'm confused in regards to the Tamil refugees. With a little research I have learned that the following countries accept refugees: Australia, Pakistan, Syria, Jordan, Iran, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, France, Iceland, Ireland, the Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Romania, Sweden and the UK. I'm sure there are far more than this.
So why did these refugees choose Canada? The answer is simple. Our laws are lapse. We welcome them with open arms and allow them to stay for years while we review their claims.
We provide food, shelter, and an abundance of lawyers to defend their rights to remain in our country.
Many of them pay thousands of dollars for their trip across the ocean. How bad did they have it in their country with these financial means?
Why can't we expedite the process for legitimate claimants using the proper channels instead of wasting my tax dollars on people who, if they were true refugees, could have stopped at a large number of countries much closer to their point of origin.
