Editor, the Times:
In response to Mr. John Vissers' question, Are We A Gateway or a Doormat?, we're a doormat for the international corporations and, without a doubt, we are Harper's doormat which he is using to wipe his neocon boots on.
How did Harper, when he's a shill for the foreign oil companies, manage to keep a straight face when he complained about those nasty foreign environmentalists that were threatening to upset his carefully laid out plans to ruin our environment?
And call them what they are: the tar sands, not oil sands, not ethical oil.
If Harper was honestly concerned about the effects of foreign influence on Canadian decision making in energy, finance, and trade, then he would pull us out of the race to the bottom brought on by globalization and the nation gutting around the world.
The environmentalists in the U.S. have succeeded in at least temporarily killing the pipeline to Texas for the tar sand oil. We can ask no less of ourselves in fighting against the northern pipeline, as well as fracking and coal shipments to China.
