Kinder Morgan Canada representatives will be at the Feb. 13 (Monday) meeting at Straiton Hall on Abbotsford’s Sumas Mountain, meeting organizer and local resident John Vissers said Friday.

Local residents called the public meeting to discuss a Jan. 24 oil spill at the Kinder Morgan Sumas terminal site at the Upper Sumas Mountain Road. The company reported that 110,000 litres of crude oil escaped into a containment area.

Residents still have questions about the spill, said Vissers, and about possible future spills.

He said Kinder Morgan officials confirmed the company would have representatives at the meeting to answer questions.

The spill was contained and mopped up that day, but residents and school children in the nearby Auguston neighbourhood and area put up with strong odours.

Some people complained of feeling nauseated and some parents took their children home from Auguston Traditional Elementary School.

Vissers said the National Energy Board will also send representatives to answer questions.

Abbotsford Fire Rescue Service Chief Don Beer and City of Abbotsford staff members and some city councillors have also said they would attend.

On Saturday (Feb. 1), Kinder Morgan will take some city councillors and staff members on a tour of the Sumas terminal site.

The Monday night meeting starts at 8 p.m., at Straiton Community Hall, 4698 Upper Sumas Mountain Rd., Abbotsford. It will be open to the public.
