As Valentine's Day approaches, what better way to send a little love and support to a little girl and her family who desperately need it?

Lilee-Jean was born in Abbotsford just 14 months ago, but has spent a good part of her young life in BC Children's Hospital battling an aggressive form of brain cancer. She was diagnosed with glioblastoma multiforme, a rare form of cancer, at just 10 months of age, and since then has undergone two surgeries and three rounds of chemotherapy. She is now in her fourth and final bout of the cancer fighting drug, and this is the most aggressive of all the treatments, said her great-grandmother, Christine Wiebe of Abbotsford.

"She doesn't know this isn't a normal way [of life]," said Wiebe. "It's all she's ever known."

Still, Wiebe adds that LJ is responding well to the chemotherapy and the family is very hopeful, but won't know the final results until the end of February.

In the meantime and between treatments, Lilee-Jean is acting very much like a typical 14-month-old. She's crawling and talking and even having her own little tantrums.

She's also a big hockey fan and shouts out her own broken down version of "Go Canucks Go" whenever she can, said Wiebe.

Christine and her husband, former city councilor Chuck Wiebe, are holding a fundraiser event, Support our Sweetheart, on Saturday, Feb. 12 to help her family, mom Chelsey Whittle of Abbotsford and dad Andrew Putt of Agassiz, with their living expenses while staying in Vancouver with Lilee-Jean, and also maintaining their home in Chilliwack.

The fundraiser will include a dinner buffet at the Phoenix Lounge in Abbotsford from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., along with a silent auction, entertainment and more. Tickets are $50 and can be purchased from Christine at 604-850-8657 or Diane at 6048555999 or by visiting loveforlilee.com.

Sponsors who make a donation towards the silent auction and fundraising evening will be recognized at the event and on LJ's Facebook and website.

At 14 months, Lilee-Jean Putt is very interested in toys, even while undergoing chemotherapy for brain cancer at Children's Hospital in Vancouver.
