A 10-kilometre stretch of the Lougheed Highway between Dewdney Bridge and Deroche Bridge will get a $2.2-million facelift this fall.

The province announced the contract has been awarded to Keywest Asphalt Ltd. to resurface the Highway 7 section east of Mission.

The work will smooth out surface deficiencies such as cracks and potholes, which can lower the lifespan of the road and increase future maintenance costs. The work should make the roadway smoother and safer.

"Highway 7 is a key transportation corridor that Mission families and businesses depend on. These upgrades will help ensure that people and goods are able to move safely and efficiently through the region," said Randy Hawes, MLA for Abbotsford-Mission.

Work is to be completed by Oct. 15.
