Teens talk sex in church

Evenings focus on realistic queries

Is looking at porn really that bad? What is dating with honour?

How do you break up the right way?

Youth Church Abbotsford will look at these questions, plus dating, virginity, sex and other topics church doesn't usually talk about, in a series of Sunday night talks this month in Abbotsford.

"MTV and the Internet shouldn't be the only places for youth and young adults to turn to for advice on sex," said South Abbotsford Church youth pastor Jon Wiebe.

In recent years, Wiebe has led several seminars for young people on developing relationships in the month of February.

This year, Wiebe wanted to venture outside of the walls of the church and decided to take the discussion out to the broader community.

"We believe the church has something to say about sex, dating, relationships and a lot of other topics," said Wiebe.

"We just want to be another source people can turn to as they navigate this stage of their life."

The evenings are open to all youth, no matter what their background.

"We hope to open up some discussion with realistic and relevant information," he said.

The target group is from 14 to 24. Each evening will feature live music and speakers. There will be opportunities for dialogue and answers to questions at each event.

Wiebe will be one of the speakers, along with Abbotsford blogger Lisa Marziali, who writes the Confessions of a 29-year-old Virgin blog.

The evenings are Feb. 5, 12 and 19 at the Matsqui Centennial Auditorium (city hall) at 32315 South Fraser Way.

The last talk is Feb. 26 at South Abbotsford Church, 32424 Huntingdon Rd. All talks start at 7 p.m. See more at www.youthchurchabbotsford.com.
