Abbotsford's new Walmart SuperCentre opens its doors to the public on Friday morning at 8 a.m.

The retail giant is the first store to be completed within the Highstreet Centre under construction at the Mt. Lehman exchange.

Highstreet is slated to become a 600,000 square foot open-air regional shopping centre anchored by the Walmart as well as London Drugs, Marshalls and Cineplex VIP Cinemas.

The retail complex will feature main street style shopping and dining on the upper podium and covered parking on the lower level.

Highstreet is employing green construction practices, working towards Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification, which would make it one of the first in Canada for a large-scale retail project.

The Walmart SuperCen-tre's operation is the first of a phased opening taking place at Highstreet throughout the spring.
