Abbotsford schools are planning a selection of activities and events for Pink Shirt Day today to combat bullying.

Pink Shirt Day is a day that reflects Abbotsford schools commitment today and throughout the year to address bullying behaviour and promote being a good citizen.

Abbotsford Middle is hosting Steve Andrew of "Bully Back Off" who is doing workshops with all Grade 6 students. He is also training schools' peer mediators to help with anti-bullying efforts. Students will participate in an anti-bullying flash mob outside at 2:05 p.m. near the end of the day.

Upper Sumas Elementary is doing a 'Stop Drop and Think Pink,' program, in which students will be sharing their bullying prevention messages on the PA system throughout the day.

Auguston Elementary is holding an anti-bullying assembly with students performing skits, songs, poems, and flash mob dance.

Abbotsford Traditional Middle school staff will be garbed in pink while students sport wristbands and each grade with participate in activities headed by student leaders.

At Ross Elementary kids will participate in anti-bullying events during their scheduled month-end assembly and WA Fraser Middle students have a pink T-shirt contest going on as well as an artwork display.

Clearbrook Elementary is creating pink posters for the school.

Many other schools will be encouraging students and staff to wear pink and have in-class discussions about bullying.

Additionally, today the Abbotsford Youth Commission (AYC) is hosting a rally to promote anti-bullying awareness. The rally will be held at the AYC Youth Centre at the Abbotsford Recreation Centre, 2499 McMillan Road, starting at 3:30 p.m. featuring the APD, AYC staff, youth, university students and the public.
