Abbotsford Police Department is making a video on the dangers of ecstasy available to the public for free.

The APD filmed the documentary, titled Operation X, after two Abbotsford youths died after taking the street drug in late 2011.

The film focuses on the stories of the overdose victims, Tyler Miller and Cheryl McCormack, and the impact their deaths had on their families and friends.

Operation X was shown to thousands of Abbotsford secondary and middle school students before the conclusion of the school year.

The families and friends of Cheryl and Tyler showed tremendous courage in sharing their stories to prevent others from falling victim of the drug, said Const. Ian MacDonald.

The APD also wants to ensure that information about the dangers of ecstasy is as accessible as possible, said MacDonald.

"We saw what kind of reaction the film generated at the secondary and middle school level," he said.

"It's far too important a message not to share through the summer break, and the potential users of ecstasy and street drugs are not only students.

"We are committed to get the message out, and one avenue is to make that film public."

- The film is available on YouTube at: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rl9jS8oPtEc&feature=youtube_gdata_player .

DVD copies are also available by contacting the APD Community Policing Office at 604-864-4814. Operation X presentations are scheduled to resume in September. Those interested in booking a presentation should contact Const. John Davidson at 604-614-2390 or Const. Carrie Durocher at 604-614-0073.
