Abbotsford Police Department believes a home riddled with bullets early Sunday morning was targeted.

Up to a dozen shots were fired at the house in the 2100 block of Meadows Street at 3:30 a.m., said Const. Ian MacDonald.

"Most hit the house or the car in the driveway. Several made their way into the home," said MacDonald.

"It appears most were aimed at doors and windows."

As of Tuesday morning, every window at the front of the home still had bullet holes in the glass, with the picture window peppered by multiple rounds.

The four adults in the home at the time of the shooting - a couple and two extended family members - escaped unharmed.

Investigators believe someone was targeting the house but perhaps not the people inside at the time of the shooting.

"Whoever was responsible for the shooting targeted the residence," said MacDonald.

"But we're less sure if it's the result of recent issues with occupants of the house or something tied to the past."

The couple in the home has two adult aged children who have had interactions with police in the past, said MacDonald.

However, the pair weren't at the house at the time of the attack.

MacDonald wouldn't speculate if those two individuals could be the intended targets.

Investigators are delving into the house and all its occupants, past and present, to determine a possible motive, said MacDonald.

Police initially detained a man who was running in the area at the time of the shooting but have released him.

"After interviewing him, we are satisfied he's not connected," said MacDonald.

Neighbours in the area reported hearing a series of loud bangs and seeing a single man running from the scene and possibly jumping into a nearby car.
