Mission RCMP are asking for the public's help about a shooting early this week that left a 20-year-old local man with a gunshot injury to his left hand.
The shooting occurred near Centennial Park sometime late Sunday (Sept. 30) to early Monday morning.
Just before 2 a.m. on Oct. 1, Mission Memorial Hospital contacted the local RCMP to report that a young man with a gunshot wound to his left hand had been dropped off at the emergency ward.
The police arrived and interviewed the victim, a 20-year-old male Mission resident who is known to police.
"The victim states he was approached by four males in Centennial Park, at the corner of Seventh Avenue and Grand Street in Mission," said Sgt. Peter Thiessen, acting spokesperson for Mission detachment.
"He claims he was jumped and he raised his hand, sustaining a single gunshot wound to his palm," said Thiessen.
However, the victim is "uncooperative," he added.
The police don't know if the victim knew his assailants, or where they are from.
"We're still trying to determine what he may know," said Thiessen.
The victim underwent surgery to repair the wound to his hand and has been released from the hospital.
Thiessen could not say what calibre of firearm was used.
The Mission RCMP detachment asks witnesses or those who have any information about the incident to contact them.
"If anyone has any information, if they saw or heard anything suspicious in that time frame, we're just looking for more information," Thiessen said.
People can contact the Mission RCMP at 604-826-7161 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS.
