Police have charged Lester Olivia Buezo Oseguera, 29, with possessing a loaded restricted firearm and expect to lay more charges as they investigate Surrey's 13th homicide this year.
Oseguera is expected to appear in Surrey provincial court on Friday.
Surrey RCMP Const. Peter Neily said investigators can "confidently say they are investigating only one suspect in this matter."
Two Surrey Mounties were shot at while investigating a disturbance call and later found the body of Jose Hector Luna, 28, in a home in Bolivar Heights late Monday night.
The officers were not hit. Three people were arrested and a weapon was recovered but police won't confirm how Luna died.
The shooting happened at about 11 p.m., at a house in the neighborhood of 140th Street and 112th Avenue. When the police arrived, a man confronted them in the front yard and fired a shot at them before running off.
Surrey RCMP Insp. Steve Wade said the officers did not shoot back.
"Immediately after this, a second male was taken into custody at the rear of the residence," Wade said.
Police then entered the home and found Luna's body inside. Another person was then arrested outside, while Const. Claudio Maurizio and his police dog, Racer, tracked down the man who'd run away. He was arrested a few blocks away, with help from the RCMP Emergency Response Team.
The 29-year-old man was taken to hospital to be treated for a dog bite.
Police have not yet released the names of the others who were arrested.
They don't believe the shooting was a random act.
"It appears they were known to each other," Const. Peter Neily said.
Police are asking anyone with information to call the Surrey RCMP at 604-599-0502.
