A Chilliwack woman is dead after being involved in a head-on crash in Abbotsford Monday morning.

The 67-year-old woman was headed northbound in a Fiat 500 on the Highway 11 bypass south of the Old Clayburn overpass just before 10 a.m., when a white GMC cargo van driving south crossed the centre line and collided with her car, said Abbotsford Police Sgt. Casey Vinet.

The woman was transported to hospital but died from her injuries.

The 42-year-old Mission man driving the van was airlifted to a Lower Mainland hospital for medical treatment, said Vinet.

Police closed the bypass for several hours between the Old Yale Road exit and the entrance to Highway 11 as collision analysts investigated.

The investigation is ongoing and it's not yet clear why the van crossed the centre line, said Vinet.
