Clarifying fundraiser

The Abbotsford Hospice Foundation wants to clarify some funding information that ran in a Times article on June 25.

The Abbotsford Community Foundation presented a cheque in June for $30,000 to three agencies that are each building a hospice or a respite facility in Abbotsford.

The non-profit groups are the Abbotsford Hospice Society, Canuck Place and Mathew's House. Each organization will receive $10,000 to be spread over three years of the capital fundraising campaign for each organization.

Each agency will build a separate facility on the west side of the Abbotsford Regional Hospital and Cancer Centre, on what is being called a campus of care.

Each has its own independent board and mandate, but will be able to share resources due to this close proximity.

The Abbotsford Hospice Society will have a 10-bed hospice facility for those older than 19 years old from the local community. Canuck Place in Abbotsford will provide hospice services to children 18 and under from across B.C., while Mathew's Place will provide respite to families with chronically ill children.

Abbotsford Hospice Society's campaign goal is $7 million, that of Canuck Place is $9.75 million, while the campaign goal for Mathew's House is not yet determined.
