Core service cash approved

Mission district council approved a budget Monday night of up to $100,000 to conduct a core services review.

The final costs will likely be somewhere in the range of $60,000 to $90,000, but based on other community reviews, director of finance Ken Bjorgaard recommended that $100,000 should be set aside.

About $75,000 of the funding will come from the council's 2012 contingency account and the balance from the stabilization reserve fund.

The request for proposals was to be posted to B.C. Bid on Tuesday.

The RFP deadline is Feb. 22. After evaluating bids and presentations, the task force will finalize a contract.

The core services review was a campaign promise by Mayor Ted Adlem and his slate, the Citizens for Responsible Municipal Government, all of whom were elected to the council Nov. 19.

The review will look at how and what services are provided inside the departments at city hall, and how they compare to other municipalities of the same size.

Meanwhile, various district departments have begun to submit draft plans to cut 10 per cent from their respective budgets, said Bjorgaard.
