A drunk woman slathered in purple paint and riding an electric scooter through Abbotsford spent time in jail after catching the attention of police Wednesday afternoon.

It wasn't the woman's appearance, but the fact that she was so impaired she couldn't properly walk or talk that got her into trouble, said Const. Ian MacDonald.

"We are not purple profiling," said MacDonald.

"We're not just arresting purple people."

Two APD officers were conducting a traffic stop in the downtown area at 3:30 p.m. when the 34-year-old woman rode past them, not once, but twice.

On the second pass, the officers noted the woman appeared confused and her driving was wobbly.

"They catch up to the woman in a parking lot and quickly determine she is very intoxicated," said MacDonald.

The officers gave her a 24-hour driving suspension, $168 fine and a chance to sample the hospitality of an APD cell, said MacDonald.

"It's funny and quirky but at the end of the day, it's still a public safety concern," he said.

"She could have collided with a car, pedestrian or wiped out, and we don't want any of those outcomes."

It's still a mystery why the woman chose to paint herself purple and take to the streets on her scooter.

"We never got the whole story . . . did the liquor or the paint come first?" asked MacDonald. "We wish we knew."
