Abbotsford Police were pleased that the number of impaired drivers out on New Year's Eve appears to be in decline but the department is disappointed drunk driving is still occurring at all.
The APD had patrol officers stopping drivers and a roving counter attack roadblock active on Dec. 31, said Const. Ian MacDonald.
"On the whole, we didn't have big numbers for impaired driving," said MacDonald, adding about a dozen individuals were separated from their vehicles for suspected drunk driving.
However, despite the messaging and awareness about the dangers of drinking and driving, officers were still dealing with impaired drivers, he noted.
Approximately six drivers were issued 24-hour roadside suspensions, two got three-day immediate roadside suspensions while another two got 90-day suspensions and one driver was criminally charged with impaired driving.
