An 82-year-old woman from Hope died following a head-on crash in Abbotsford after driving in the wrong direction on Highway 1 on Saturday morning.
The woman, in 2005 Buick Allure, exited the Bradner Road rest stop the wrong way travelling eastbound in the westbound lanes around 10:45 a.m., said RCMP Sgt. Peter Thiessen.
She crashed into a 2003 Mazda 3 Hatchback driven by a 29-year-old male who was with his wife, 24, and their three-month-old son.
The couple, from Chilliwack, suffered non-life threatening injuries but fortunately their infant son was unharmed.
"This tragic loss of life has impacted a family forever," said Thiessen.
"This is a time of year when families come together and celebrate the holidays but unfortunately a family now grieves the loss of a beloved family member. Fortunately there was not a greater loss of life."
There is no evidence alcohol was a factor in the crash, said Thiessen.
RCMP has not yet released the name of the crash victim.
