A Fraser Valley man who has lived in the Abbotsford and Chilliwack communities is wanted on a Canada-wide warrant in relation to 18 criminal charges, including sexual offences.
Stephen Edgar McCreary, 61, is facing 13 counts of sexual offences as well as four counts of aggravated assault and one count of forcible confinement.
After an investigation by the Abbotsford Police Department major crimes unit, the charges were sworn on Oct. 3 and a warrant for McCreary’s arrest was issued.
The Abbotsford Police believe that McCreary, a truck driver, fled the Lower Mainland and possibly British Columbia on July 17, 2012.
The police have had indications he may have been in Quebec, Ontario and possibly Nova Scotia.
“We believe he was aware of the fact there was an ongoing investigation. He may be hunkered down with friends or family in those other parts of the country,” although his hosts would likely not be aware of the charges McCreary is facing, said Const. Ian MacDonald.
McCreary most recently lived in Abbotsford and in Yarrow. The police believe he may return to the area, where he may have friends and acquaintances.
“We’re appealing to the public [for information]. Regardless of where he is in the country, he needs to be brought in,” said MacDonald.
Stephen Edgar McCreary is 5’9” tall and weighs 180 pounds.
He has brown eyes and short grey hair.
Anyone with information about McCreary or his whereabouts is asked to contact their local police department or detachment, Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or the Abbotsford Police Department at 604-859-5225.
