More than 1,000 students and staff at Mission Secondary School were evacuated shortly after 11 a.m. Tuesday after a threatening note was located within the school.

All the students are safe, said a spokesperson for Mission Public Schools.

The students and staff were not allowed back in the building following the evacuation.

Mission RCMP Sgt. Shaun Wright described the note as a bomb threat.

“Police and [two] dogs conducted a search and failed to locate anything of interest,” said Wright. “It basically turned out to be nothing except the empty threat.”

Still the RCMP are continuing to investigate and are in the process of tracking down the author of the note, which they believe came from a student.

After 12:30 p.m. students, who were gathered along the perimetre of the school grounds, were dismissed for the day and instructed to go to the Mission Leisure Centre to await pickup.
