Police are investigating a suspicious fire after a car went up in flames in the drive-way of a west Abbotsford home early Saturday morning.
Police officers were called out to the house in the 3600 block of Greendale Court at 3: 25 a.m. and arrived to find a 2003 Toyota Corolla totally engulfed by fire.
Witnesses reported hearing several small explosions before seeing the fire start in the rear of the vehicle.
Const. Ian MacDonald said investigators have classified the fire as suspicious but don't yet have a motive or suspect.
Police have had limited interaction with the home or homeowners in the past, MacDonald said. The registered owner of the car is a 39year-old man, he added.
It wasn't clear if the fire was linked to outstanding disputes or past altercations, he said.
"Of course such things wouldn't be discounted," said MacDonald.
"It could be a gripe with the family or residents or just somebody doing mischief to vehicles."
The cost of the damage is estimated in the low thousands of dollars, he said.
