School expenditures up

Abbotsford School District expenditures are $192.8 million for the 2012-13 fiscal year, up $11.6 million from the budget set at the start of that time frame.

The district received more funding from the Ministry of Education due to higher than anticipated enrollments, the board heard at its Feb. 26 public meeting.

Higher expenses in the amended budget included $7.4 million more for teachers plus additional $2.3 million for operations and maintenance.

To balance the updated budget, the ASD was able to use $8.5 million from its accumulated surplus.

At the meeting, the trustees also adopted in principle a new governance and board meetings policy that will provide for two question periods during regular public hearings, and a format for how delegations to the board will be received.
