Three exemplary Abbotsford residents were awarded the Queen Elizabeth Diamond Jubilee medals by B.C. Finance Minister and Abbotsford West MLA Mike de Jong on Friday morning.
De Jong presented the awards at an Abbotsford Chamber of Commerce breakfast held to hear the minister speak about the new provincial budget.
Kelly Chahal was awarded the honour for her work in the community, particularly in service of the University of the Fraser Valley and the Fraser Valley Indo-Canadian Business Association.
Sharon Taylor received her medal on behalf of her pioneer family's long-standing contributions to the Mt. Lehman community and her individual efforts over the past 28 years in organizing the Mt. Lehman Fall Fair. The third recipient was Ron Price, president of the Abbotsford International Airshow, a society he has been involved with since the late 90s. Price has also played important roles on municipal, provincial and federal boards and committees in the aerospace, tourism, agriculture and land development industries, including the Abbotsford Chamber of Commerce, the Abbotsford Airport Authority, and Tourism Abbotsford.
"I can think of no better ambassador for the city," said de Jong.
