If you're taking a continuing studies course from the University of the Fraser Valley in Abbotsford, chances are that it will be at UFV's newest location on the lower level of the Clearbrook Library.

"This new facility provides the space and state-of-the-art equipment and amenities needed for us to provide educational opportunities and community liaison right in the heart of Abbotsford," said UFV president Mark Evered.

Evered was on hand Tuesday with city and UFV officials to open the new 15,000 square foot space, which replaces the Marshall Road facility.

UFV's Applied Business Technology program is also now housed at the centre along with continuing studies, and it will be used by other UFV departments for special events and seminars.

The new centre is close to Abbotsford City Hall, The Reach gallery, Abbotsford police headquarters, shopping and restaurants, and the library.

"This campus to me will remain as a significant reminder of how fortunate we are as a university to be located in a community that values what a good university brings," said Evered.

"It's a reminder to me that we live in a community that was prepared to fight for us back in the 60s and early 70s when we were a community college. And [they] went on fighting and supporting us as we progressed to a full-fledged university. Abbotsford is a community that recognizes the social, the cultural and the economic benefits that a good university brings."

Mayor Bruce Banman was also enthusiastic about the new centre, located adjacent to the International Friendship Garden on the north side of the library.

"I want to recognize George Peary for his important role in making today possible," said Banman.

"George is actually the one who did all the hard work on this."

The UFV Clearbrook centre is on the bottom floor of the Clearbrook library, at 32355 Veterans Way, Abbotsford. Entrance is on the north side of the building.
