Videos, talks part of teen reading club

Teens can do the talking, do the writing, make the videos and win the prizes this summer at the New Westminster Public Library.

The Teen Summer Reading Club - with this year's theme of Get into Character - started June 14th, and teens have been registering daily since the opening.

By reading each week and writing reviews, teens can collect an unlimited number of draw slips that get entered in a weekly prize draw (see our "fab" display case). All slips are also entered in the grand prize draw for a $100 gift certificate to a store of their choice.

Starting on Thursday, July 8, we'll kick off a month of TeenTalk Thursdays.

Each Thursday from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m., we'll gather to talk about a genre of book (romance, fantasy/sci-fi, dystopian futures and more).

All teens have to do is read a book from the given genre (we can help choose one) and come to the Thursday TeenTalk.

We'll chat about the genre, about who loved or hated their book, eat snacks and do a related art project. Those who attend will be eligible for the weekly book prize that's only for TeenTalk attendees.

For the tech-inclined teens, we're holding a Get into Character book trailer video contest for youth aged 12 and up. Make a three-minute video book trailer of your favourite book and post it to YouTube (get contest rules from the library), and you'll be entered to win a prize in the New Westminster book trailer contest.

The winner of the New West contest will then be entered to compete for the Best Book Trailer in the Lower Mainland prize - a contest that pits your video against the best from other Lower Mainland libraries. The grand prize is a $200 Best Buy gift certificate.
