A construction worker who sustained head injuries after being crushed between a scissor lift and overhead canopy at the new Walmart in the Highstreet Mall on Jan. 23 has died, according to WorkSafeBC.

The man, who worked with M& L Painting, had been operating the lift when his head made contact with a sprinkler head above him just after 8 a.m.

He was first transported to Abbotsford Regional Hospital, and then airlifted to the trauma center at Royal Columbian Hospital in New Westminster.
