Two members of the United Nations gang caught in an undercover sting have pleaded guilty to conspiracy to traffic cocaine.

Former Kelowna resident Donald Edward Vanalstine, 52, and Abbotsford's Daryl Robert Johnson, 33, entered the pleas in Vancouver Supreme Court Wednesday.

Vanalstine was an original member of the UN, which was started in the Fraser Valley in 1997 by Clay Roueche.

Johnson was also a long-time member of the gang when he was arrested with Vanalstine in November 2009 on drug charges.

Both men were duped by a former trafficker-turned police agent who approached the Combined Forces Special Enforcement Unit about aiding in an investigation.

The agent, identified only as GL in a related court case, made fake cocaine deals worth hundreds of thousands with both UN and Red Scorpion gangsters.

RS member Jarrod Bacon is serving a 12-year sentence after being found guilty in the same investigation earlier this year.

The UN and RS were mired in a bloody gang war in 2008 and 2009 when the CFSEU undertook the investigation, dubbed E-Pintle.

"Our commitment to the citizens of British Columbia is to ensure their safety by placing those people responsible for gang and organized crime violence behind bars," said CFSEU-BC's Chief Officer Dan Malo.

"Our enforcement efforts over the past few years have significantly impacted the ability of this organized crime group and others to conduct their criminal business.

"We would also like to acknowledge the tremendous effort put forward by Crown counsel during this investigation."

Vanalstine and Johnson met with a police agent on a number of occasions during the probe to arrange the purchase of 100 kg of cocaine, purported to be from Mexico.

The pair provided a $100,000 down payment and took delivery of 100 kg of placebo cocaine.
