A crash involving at least four vehicles closed the eastbound lanes of the TransCanada Highway between McCallum Road and Sumas Way in Abbotsford about an hour before noon on Friday.

It appears a black sedan smashed into the back of a gravel truck, and two other vehicles then crashed into them. The highway was slick with rain.

Abbotsford Police were on the scene first to secure the crash site until RCMP Traffic Services arrived shortly after to take. Several emergency responders also arrived at the crash site to attend to the injured.

At least one female in the vehicle that crashed into the dump truck was badly injured. Fire rescue personnel cut the victim out of the sedan while paramedics tended to the woman before she was taken away by ambulance. It is not known at this time if there were any other people injured.

The emergency response included at least one B.C. Air Ambulance. The incident closed the route and drew several onlookers who stopped on nearby King Road.
