Abbotsford Police arrested an alleged gang associate for the third time within a five-month period on Wednesday night.
Russell Jordan Mayhew, 26, is charged with possession for the purposes of trafficking and breach after officers arrested him the underground parking lot of an apartment building in the 2200 block of McKenzie Road at 11:30 p.m.
Cocaine and cash were seized after officers searched his suite, said Const. Ian MacDonald, adding the amounts of drugs seized suggests the suspect is working or coordinating a dial a dope operation.
"He is a lower to mid-level operator. He's definitely someone who is on our gangster and drug involved list," said MacDonald.
Mayhew, who has had numerous contacts with police, has been linked to a number of gangs, he added.
"But with the constantly changing alliances it's hard to say which jersey he's wearing right now," said MacDonald.
Mayhew has also been charged with three counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking and uttering threats and causing fear of injury in connection with two separate incidents on Nov. 7 and Aug. 21 this year.
His criminal history also included convictions for assault, break and enter, drug possession and multiple breach and driving while prohibited offences.
Mayhew's trio of arrests within a short time frame indicates he's come under the scrutiny of the APD, said MacDonald.
"When someone falls onto our public safety radar they don't come off," he said.
"They will continue to be arrested so long as they are gang and drug involved."
