November 1 Amrit Gill, charged with second-degree murder in the 2008 stabbing death of Abbotsford's 18-year-old Harvey Hans, is convicted of manslaughter in Chilliwack Supreme Court. Gill was one of two men charged in connection with the death of Hans, a Rick Hansen Secondary student and basketball player who was just weeks away from graduating when his throat was slashed in a fight outside his home in the 31600 block of Ridgeview Drive.

July 5 Christopher Kampman died after his arrest by Abbotsford Police on July 1 after they responded to reports of a prowler. Police reported Kampman, 37, appeared to be influenced by drugs or alcohol when taken into custody. An ambulance was on its way when Kampman went into cardiac arrest.
