APD set to unveil new campaign

The Abbotsford police Department is set to launch a new targeted, visual campaign in its continuing war on gangs in the Fraser Valley.

The success of previous anti-gang campaigns such as Veritas and Tarnish have emboldened officers to go after an even more lucrative target market than teens this coming school year.

But they’re not willing to saying who that is. Yet.

A launch date for the new series is set for Sept. 14, Const. Ian MacDonald said.

“We don’t want to tip all of our cards in advance.”

Police want the public and the media to prepare itself for the upcoming launch, and MacDonald said he is confident this new series will generate even more interest than the previous two.

“We’re anticipating this program will be as provocative as our past campaigns and it will definitely generate debate and dialogue in the community.”

The newest target in police sights comes from an analysis of who wasn’t directly confronted in Veritas and Tarnish, MacDonald said.

“We looked at it from the standpoint of ‘what areas haven’t we addressed already, and what areas do we need to focus attention on,’” he said.

“It was the missing pieces of the puzzle that became the focal points of this next operation.”
