Editor, the Times:
I'd like to echo Robert T. Rock's letter (Jan. 5) about our blind attitude in regards to the prime minister.
The current Conservative government appears to be slowly eroding the democratic process and rights we have enjoyed for many years now; but what is even scarier is the incredible apathy expressed by the public.
"Meh" has become a way of life now - we regularly sacrifice debate and common sense because shortterm financial gain seems more important.
The Tories are dismantling and looking to privatize everything using the pathetic buzz cry of cutting "red tape."
What they call red tape, I call the checks and balances that keep us safe even from our own greed. Look at the U.S. - did cutting red tape in the banking system help?
No, it created the global recession of 2008. Incidentally it wasn't the Tories that stopped the deregulation of our banks.
Under this government, Canada has suffered a terrible black eye at the international level. Now that the "Harper Government" has a majority, it has just begun.
Canadians need to take a hard look at themselves and what the real price of our apathy is. The future of Canada depends on it.
