RCMP investigators are probing a suspicious death after a Mission man died Sunday afternoon.
According to police, two men flagged down a passing motorist and asked them to transport their injured friend to hospital around 3 p.m. Sunday.
John Weikkolla, 32, died while en route to medical services after being loaded into the car near Mill Pond along Dewdney Trunk Road, police said.
Const. Amanda Fallis said RCMP is requesting the two men who stopped the car come forward and meet with officers to discuss the circumstances surrounding Weikkolla's death.
Weikkolla had no history with police, and at this time RCMP are not linking the death to drugs or gangs, she said.
Fallis could not comment on whether foul play was involved, or on the cause of death, saying only there were no obvious signs of trauma on the body.
"That's about as far as we can say.
"The whole thing is so peculiar," she said.
Investigators are waiting for an autopsy to be completed, and hope results will shed some light on the case, Fallis said.
Anyone who was in the area at the time, or saw anything suspicious or related to this incident, is asked to call the Mission RCMP at 604-826-7161, or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
