Standout striker Gaga-ndeep Dosanjh of Abbotsford was named tournament MVP as his UBC Thunderbirds claimed the CIS national soccer championship with a 1-0 win over Cape Breton University Sunday in Quebec City.

In the semifinal game Friday, UBC beat Laval 3-0 with two goals coming from Dosanjh, his third and fourth in two days.

Recently named the CIS Canada West men's player of the year, Dosanjh led the league in goals (12), assists, (9), and points (21), while leading the Thunderbirds to an undefeated regular season (11-0-3), first place in the conference and a national championship.

Dosanjh went to high school at W.J. Mouat before transferring to Burnaby for his senior year.

The third-year UBC student returned to the form of his rookie campaign, in which he scored nine goals en route to being named a First Team Canada West All-Star in 2010, and helping UBC to a second place finish at the CIS National Championships.

"Gagan has had a terrific season to date and I'm really happy to see him rewarded with this prestigious honour as MVP," said UBC head coach Mike Mosher.

"Gagan is a real pleasure to coach. On top of his skill and ability on the ball, he is often one of the hardest working players on the game field and practice field. His work rate and competitiveness are second to none and set a great example and standard for his teammates."
