The Columbia Bible College Bearcats put in a valiant effort but had a losing weekend to Vancouver Island teams in men's basketball at home.

On Friday, the 'Cats lost to the VIU Mariners 94-50 and on Saturday, they lost in a nail-biter to the Camosun Chargers 77-76 in a game that came down to the last second and two missed free throws.

"We had two tough losses this weekend to both Island teams, and coming off a big win against the then-No. 1 team in Canada (Langara) it was a disappointment," said coach Dave Martens.

The Bearcats are one game out of a playoff spot (in PACWEST CCAA) with three weeks left to play, and the coach is looking to his veterans Kevin Ford, Marcio Juk, Tim Vaandrager and Hudson Naylor to get them to the postseason.

"Kevin Ford is arguably the top player in the province this season, being No. 1 in scoring, No. 2 in assists, and No. 5 in rebounding as of last week," said Martens. "He is a powerful guard who is impossible to guard one-on-one."

The Bearcats next game is Thursday night at 8 p.m. when they host Quest from Squamish.
