The University of the Fraser Valley women’s volleyball team is No. 1 in the country after they defeated the Lakeland Rustlers to capture the 2013 CCAA National Championship Saturday in Lloydminster, Alta.
The title is the school’s first in the program’s history since they started playing intercollegiate volleyball in 2004.
The Cascades shut out the host team 3-0, with set scores in Saturday’s final of 25-12, 25-10 and 25-20.
The Cascades were led by Kayla Bruce of Surrey with 11 kills, Jenna Evans with three aces, captain Brittany Stewart with 11 digs and Krista Hogewoning and Kierra Noot with two blocks each.
“I am very happy for the team, they have been great all year. The team works very hard and has been a delight to coach; they should be very proud of their accomplishments this year,” said a very happy head coach Dennis Bokenfohr.
The team arrives in Abbotsford Airport on West Jet flight 248 at 4:22 p.m. Sunday, March 10. Anyone interested in greeting the 2013 CCAA National Women’s Volleyball Champions are welcome to come to the airport.
