Fans of BMX racing who were thrilled with last year's Supercross World Cup at Abbotsford's Exhibition Park will be disappointed as Cycling BC has cancelled the event which was scheduled for Sept. 6-7, 2013.
"Cycling BC has forged ahead on the national and international scene in BMX over the past few years but with recent structural changes and with substantial financial difficulties, we are unable to support a BMX Supercross World Cup at this time," Cycling BC said in a statement.
The financial state, including fewer racers than expected and fewer spectators than hoped, along with recent changes at the board contributed to the decision by Cycling BC.
"It's unfortunate to not have Abbotsford on the 2013 calendar," Johan Lindstrom, CEO of Global SX Events said in a release. "Cycling BC delivered a great event in 2012 and all participants and teams had an excellent time," said Lindstrom.
"It was certainly not the biggest race on the World Cup circuit, but the event had a lot of potential to become a classic. So hopefully we can return to B.C. in the near future."
