U FV women lost out in the bronze medal matchup, falling to the University of Saskatchewan 71-65 in the Canada West consolation game Saturday in Regina.
However, the Cascades' hoops season is still alive as they earned a berth in the CIS East regional tournament in Ottawa this weekend.
"A half of high level basketball is not going to get it done with the competition we played this weekend," said coach Al Tuchscherer.
"For long stretches we competed well, but we must sustain that for 40. We have a few days to regroup before we head to Ottawa. Look forward to that challenge."
After being held scoreless in Friday's contest, Aieisha Luyken led UFV with 17 points. Sarah Wierks scored 14 (36 for the weekend) and added nine rebounds while Kayli Sartori had 12 points.
The team that wins next weekend's four-team tournament will receive a berth in the CIS national championships the weekend of March 16-18 at the University of Calgary.
Semifinals are March 9, the championship game is March 10.
The Cascades' regular and post-season record falls to 14-8 going into next weekend's CIS regional.
