The Cascade women's basketball team recorded two huge wins over UBC last weekend, beating the Thunderbirds 76-48 Friday and then 88-82 in double overtime on Saturday in Vancouver. The Cascades improve to a perfect 6-0 in the Pacific Division of CIS Canada West.
"All in all [it was] a good weekend against one of the most respected programs in the country," said head coach Al Tuchscherer.
Aieisha Luyken hit the net in the final second of OT to tie the game, forcing a second overtime. Sartori scored six of her 12 points in the extra frames as the Cascades out-scored the T-birds by six.
"[It was a] gritty win that perhaps we didn't deserve to win," said Tuchscherer. "It was good to see us persevere. We need to be more assertive defensively . . . to learn from this game and move on."
The Cascades were led by Nicole Wierks with 21 points, Luyken (16), Alexa McCarthy and Sarah Wierks each hit for 13 points and Sartori with 12. Sarah Wierks pulled down 14 rebounds in the victory.
