No. 2 ranked Walnut Grove ousted No. 1 ranked Yale Secondary with an 86-73 win over the Lions to claim the Fraser Valley East division title Saturday night in Triple-A boys basketball.
The Lions kept the game tight until the third quarter, when the Gators went on a rampage, building up a score that the Lions couldn't overcome.
In the semifinal game on Friday, Yale put away W.J. Mouat 81-64 to advance to the final. Mouat went on to beat Sardis 64-40 for third spot.
The Fraser Valley Triple A Zone tournament began last night with Abby Senior, Robert Bateman, Mouat, MEI and Yale all in the mix but details were not available by press deadline. Yale is hosting the first three rounds of the tournament for Valley teams, where only the winner on Day 1 advances.
The highly competitive Fraser Valley will send eight to the B.C. Championship at the Langley Events Centre in mid-March, and as of now White Rock Christian is seeded No. 1, Walnut Grove of Langley is seeded No. 2, fresh off its win Saturday over Yale in the Fraser Valley East final.
Yale is seeded No. 3 and W.J. Mouat is seeded fifth in the Valley.
