A man was airlifted to hospital after his car was mangled in a head-on crash with a tractor in Abbotsford on Friday morning.
A burgundy 1995 Ford Escort collided with a John Deer tractor towing a trailer on South Parallel Road near Whatcom Road at 7:40 a.m., said Abbotsford Police Const. Ian MacDonald.
"It's a pretty devastating collision," said MacDonald.
Preliminary reports suggest the tractor was making a right turn from Whatcom onto South Parallel and struck the oncoming car that was travelling in the wrong lane.
After the crash, both vehicles were located in the tractor's lane, with the car half crushed under the farm vehicle's tires.
"We know that was the end result," said MacDonald.
"And now we have to determine what lead up to the collision."
The full extent of the man's injuries haven't been confirmed yet, but the driver, who believed to be in his late 40s, was in and out of consciousness while firefighters and paramedics attended him, said MacDonald.
He was transported to a Lower Mainland by air ambulance.
The driver of the tractor was not injured in the crash.
South Parallel Road at Whatcom will be blocked while collision reconstruction analysts investigate.
