The public has voted and local business Tracycakes Bakery CafŽ has been named one of the Top 10 best small businesses in the province as part of the Small Business BC Successful You Awards Contest (SYA).

"It's very exciting. I'm just so honoured that someone thinks we're doing a good job," said owner Tracy Dueck, a resident of Abbotsford for more than 20 years.

Tracycakes Bakery CafŽ is competing for the Best Company Award, recognizing the business that best demonstrates exceptional leadership, as well as a proven track record of growth and profitability.

"Just to be recognized and given that opportunity to step back and look at your business [is an honour], and see your potential to keep moving in that direction," added Dueck.

Throughout the last two months Tracycakes gained enough online votes from their community to be named a Top 10 finalist in this category.

Finalists were selected by the residents of B.C. with votes collected online using social media, e-communications and word of mouth.

Tracycakes opened on Montrose Avenue in 2008 and has been a destination point for residents ever since.

"It's the perfect fit for the business area," said Dueck.

"We draw people down there. The ADBA [Abbotsford Downtown Business Association] has done a really good job of building up that part of the town, getting retail shops, [and] that feeling that we can just park and wander. It's a nice thing."

The SYA finalists come from diverse sectors such as technology, hospitality, tourism and health care. More than 25 communities in B.C. are represented.

The Top 10 finalists will submit an application to judges who will decide the Top 5 finalists from each category, to be announced on Jan. 30.

- The winners will be announced on Feb. 28 in Vancouver at the SYA ceremony. More details can be found at www.successfulyou.ca.
