Heritage school open house

MSA Museum is inviting the public to an open house for the South Poplar Heritage School and Restoration and Relocation Project on Saturday from 1 - 4 p.m. at 32746 Huntingdon Rd., Abbotsford.

The museum is hoping to garner interest and support for moving the one-room heritage school building to their museum site at 2313 Ware St. in Abbotsford.

When the school was first built in 1933, it had no electricity or running water and students made use of an outhouse.

"There were no roads in the area. Students had to get to school using trails through surrounding farmers' fields," said David Salhstrom, MSA director of development.

They want to relocate the vintage schoolhouse and renovate it to become a cornerstone for the future Discovery Village project on the museum grounds.
